If you like your beer with a side of weird fiction, then these brewers have just the thing for you.
New England brewery Narragansett is celebrating its 125th anniversary by creating a line of H.P. Lovecraft-inspired beers (Lovecraft’s birthday falls in the same year as the brewery’s founding).
The first in the series will be called the Lovecraft Honey Ale, which may be the first time that Lovecraft’s name has ever been associated with “honey.”
The recipe is being described as a “space mead consumed by a winged creature” from the Lovecraft story, The Festival. More specifically, it’s a hop-forward ale with Summit and El Dorado hops, honey, and a blend of five varieties of malt (including honey malt). It clocks in at about 7% ABV.
The second Lovecraft-inspired beer will be the “Innsmouth Old Ale,” inspired of course by the story The Shadow Over Innsmouth.
The Honey Ale will be out later this month on January 19, with the Old Ale following in April.
